Wedding Officiant & Minister

in Oxnard, CA

“I’ve been officiating weddings in Oxnard for 29 years, and this city never gets old. Tucked right along the coast with miles of uncrowded beaches and Channel Islands views on the horizon, Oxnard has some of the most beautiful ceremony spots in all of Ventura County. If you’re looking for a wedding officiant Oxnard couples trust, one who actually takes the time to know you and your story, I’d love to talk. Call or text me directly at (805) 300-4955.”

As a trusted wedding officiant Oxnard couples rely on, I’ve officiated ceremonies here for 29 years and this coastal city never stops impressing me. What makes Oxnard truly special is something most couples discover the moment they arrive — wide open beaches, Channel Islands views on the horizon, and a genuine sense of space that you simply don’t find in Malibu or Santa Barbara.

What I bring to every ceremony is something most officiants simply don’t offer. My background as a motivational speaker, minister, and professional writer means I don’t show up with a template. I sit with every couple for about an hour, ask questions, listen to your story, and then write a ceremony from scratch that is completely and uniquely yours.

If you’re looking for a wedding officiant Oxnard has to offer, I’d love to connect. Call or text me at (805) 300-4955.

Zachari Dunes Resort

The Zachari Dunes Resort on Mandalay Beach has quickly become one of my favorite venues in all of Ventura County. The setting is stunning — you’re right on the sand with the Pacific stretched out in front of you, and the resort itself is polished without being stuffy. One of the things couples love most is how close everything is. The ceremony site is set right on the grass overlooking the ocean and beach — and the bridal parties and bride can get dressed just steps away from where they’ll be saying their vows. No long walks, no shuttling across a property on your wedding day. You walk out of your room and you’re practically there.

I’ve officiated multiple ceremonies here, and what strikes me every time is how the staff treats every couple like they’re the only wedding that matters. The rooftop space is incredible for receptions, and during golden hour? Your photographer will be in heaven. If you want a wedding officiant Oxnard beach couples recommend, this is your spot.

Mandalay Beach

If you want a true beach wedding in Oxnard, Mandalay Beach is where I send couples first. It’s wide, it’s beautiful, and here’s the best part — it’s not packed wall-to-wall with people the way beaches in Malibu or Santa Monica can be. I’ve done ceremonies here where it genuinely felt like we had the whole coastline to ourselves. The Channel Islands sit right there on the horizon, the light in the afternoon is golden, and there’s a calm energy to this stretch of sand that just feels right for a wedding. One quick tip — you do need a permit from the City of Oxnard for beach ceremonies. It’s not complicated, and I’ll point you in the right direction when we talk.

Heritage Square & River Ridge

Not every Oxnard couple wants sand between their toes — and that’s where Heritage Square and River Ridge Golf Club come in. Heritage Square in downtown Oxnard gives you that charming Victorian backdrop with manicured gardens and historic architecture. It’s beautiful for couples who want something classic and elegant without leaving the city. River Ridge is a completely different feel — lush green fairways, open sky, and a sunset reception setting that rivals anything in the county. I’ve officiated at both, and they each bring something special to the table.

Tips for Planning Your Wedding Officiant Oxnard Ceremony

After 29 years officiating in this area, I’ve picked up a few things that’ll save you some headaches.

The marine layer is real — plan around it. Oxnard mornings can be foggy, especially May through July. It usually burns off by early afternoon. I always tell my couples — schedule your ceremony for 3:00 PM or later if you want clear skies and that warm golden light. Trust me on this one.

Beach permits matter. Oxnard State Beach and Mandalay Beach both require permits for ceremonies. The city of Oxnard parks department handles it, and it’s straightforward — but don’t skip it. I’m happy to walk you through the process when we chat.

Wind is your friend — until it isn’t. Oxnard beaches can get breezy, especially in spring. After hundreds of beach ceremonies, I’ve learned exactly how to position the couple so the wind isn’t blowing into your face or the microphone. Little things like that make a big difference, and it’s the kind of knowledge that comes from doing this a long, long time.

Don’t sleep on weekday weddings here. Because Oxnard isn’t as “discovered” as Malibu or Santa Barbara, you can often book stunning venues at much better rates mid-week. Some of my most beautiful intimate ceremonies have been on a quiet weekday afternoon at Mandalay Beach — just the couple, a handful of loved ones, and the ocean.

Pair your ceremony with the Channel Islands. One thing I always suggest to couples with out-of-town guests — take the boat from Channel Islands Harbor over to Anacapa or Santa Cruz Island the day before your wedding. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and it gives your guests something incredible to do while they’re visiting. The harbor is right here in Oxnard and the trip takes about an hour each way.

Whether you’re drawn to the resort elegance of Zachari Dunes, the wide-open beauty of Mandalay Beach, or the classic charm of Heritage Square — I’d love to be your Oxnard wedding officiant. Call or text me at (805) 300-4955 — I always get back to you the same day.

Why Oxnard Holds a Special Place in My Heart

Oxnard isn’t just a city I work in — it’s personal for me. Over 30 years ago, I held my own wedding reception in Ventura, and all of my family and extended family stayed at the Embassy Suites Mandalay Beach Hotel — which is now the Zachari Dunes Resort. I had family flying in from all over the country, mostly from the East Coast. And I can still remember them walking out onto Mandalay Beach for the first time, marveling at the fact that there was no humidity, just staring at the Pacific Ocean saying, ‘This is amazing.’ That moment stuck with me.

It’s the same reaction I see on couples’ faces when they visit Oxnard for the first time — this sense of discovery, like they’ve found something special that the rest of the world hasn’t figured out yet. I’ve since officiated many weddings at Zachari Dunes, and every time I walk through that property, I think about my own family standing on that same beach over 30 years ago. That’s exactly what Oxnard is — a place that stays with you. And after 29 years of officiating weddings here, I still feel it every time I drive down to the coast. If you’re planning a fall or winter wedding in Oxnard, reach out now. The venues along Mandalay Beach book faster than most people expect and I want to make sure your date is still available.

My Experience

“I became a licensed wedding officiant 29 years ago because I believed ceremonies could be better — more personal, more meaningful, and actually reflective of the two people standing there. Every couple I work with gets something written specifically for them. No templates. No recycled scripts.”

The Locations

“I’ve officiated weddings across Southern California for 29 years — from intimate beach elopements on Mandalay Beach and the Santa Barbara Courthouse to grand celebrations at the Ritz-Carlton Bacara, Four Seasons, and Zachari Dunes Resort. I know this region inside and out, and I’ll help you find the perfect setting for your ceremony.”

You!

“No two couples are alike. What you want for your wedding day is completely different from the couple before you and the couple after you. My job is to figure out what that is — your story, your humor, your values, what makes your relationship yours — and build a ceremony around it. That’s not something I do after I show up. That’s the work we do together beforehand.”

“My husband and I very easily decided to select Dean Merrill as our officiant after our first call with him inquiring about his services. We decided to proceed with his Personal package which led to a detailed and fun phone meeting with the three of us as he got to know us and to prepare for the ceremony. The day of our wedding Dean found is way to each of us prior to the ceremony to introduce himself in person and check in to see how we were doing before our big moment. Dean gladly joined my very close family and friends and I in a prayer to help guide us through the big day. During the ceremony Dean was calm and confident and very warm as he spoke about my husband and I. The ceremony was nothing but perfect. He did an amazing job sharing our stories and our love for each other to our friends and family. It has been two weeks since we were married and we still are receiving comments about how amazing and touching the ceremony was. I wish I could give him 100 stars if it were possible!”

Frequently Asked Questions

I am always available to answer specific questions or concerns. Weddings tend to bring up some common worries, so here are some of the ones I hear most often:

Will You Process our Marriage License?

I offer license processing in both my simple and personal wedding packages. All you have to do is apply and bring your license to the ceremony, where I’ll handle all of the necessary signatures. From there, I’ll mail it to the county clerk’s office within 24 hours of your big day, and you’ll get it back in one to eight weeks.

Do You Officiate Small Weddings?

I have tackled weddings of every imaginable size and given my all to each of them. I’m ready to design the ceremony that fits your needs, no matter how many people will be in attendance.

Can You Do Beach Ceremonies in Oxnard

Absolutely — beach weddings are one of my specialties, and Oxnard’s beaches are some of the best in the county for ceremonies. I’ll help you plan around the marine layer, position everything so the wind works with you instead of against you, and make sure you’ve got your permits squared away. After 29 years of beach weddings, I’ve seen every curveball the coast can throw — and your ceremony will still be amazing.

"Can My Children Join in the Ceremony?"

Of course! I’ll gladly incorporate your immediate (or extended) family into the ceremony. The bottom line is that I want to do whatever will make you and your loved ones feel special on the big day, making it truly unforgettable for everyone in attendance.

"What Are Your Rates?"

My packages start at $300 and go up based on the level of customization and coordination you need. Every package includes a personalized ceremony and license processing. Give me a call at (805) 300-4955 and I’ll walk you through everything — no pressure, no sales pitch.
