29 Years Serving Awesome Couples in Thousand Oaks, CA!
Wedding Officiant & Minister in Thousand Oaks, CA
“I’ve been a wedding officiant Thousand Oaks couples have trusted for 29 years — from the breathtaking views at Sherwood Country Club and the intimate setting at Los Robles Golf Course to the boutique elegance of Palm Garden Hotel and the hidden charm of Conejo Community Park. What I bring to your wedding that most officiants simply don’t is a background in motivational speaking, ministry, and professional writing. No two ceremonies I write are alike — ever. I’m the preferred officiant for Bella Vita Events, Southern California’s #1 rated wedding coordinator, and I’d be honored to bring that same care to your wedding day. Call or text (805) 300-4955.”
As a trusted wedding officiant Thousand Oaks couples rely on, I’ve had the privilege of performing ceremonies at some of the most stunning venues in all of Southern California — and this city never stops impressing me. Thousand Oaks is named for exactly what you’d expect: thousands of beautiful oak trees that define the landscape and give the city its unmistakable character. After 29 years of officiating weddings here, I can tell you that this city is one of the most underrated wedding destinations in the entire region.
What I bring to every ceremony is something you won’t find with most officiants. My background as a motivational speaker, minister, and professional writer means I don’t show up with a template. I sit down with every couple — usually for about an hour — and I listen. I ask questions. I learn your story. And then I write a ceremony that sounds nothing like anyone else’s, because it isn’t. It’s yours.
If you’re searching for a wedding officiant Thousand Oaks has to offer, I’d love to connect. Call or text me at (805) 300-4955.
The Benefits of Customized Ceremonies
Here’s what I’ve learned in 29 years: couples don’t want generic. They want their wedding to feel like them. That’s exactly what I deliver. When you choose me as your officiant, I spend real time getting to know you — your personalities, your story, your sense of humor, your values. Then I write every word of your ceremony from scratch.
I’ve officiated intimate backyard ceremonies with 10 guests and elegant black-tie affairs with 300. The size doesn’t matter. What matters is that every person in those seats feels something. That’s my job, and I take it seriously.
Officiating Religious and Secular Weddings
One of the things couples appreciate most is my flexibility. I’m an ordained minister, so I’m completely comfortable incorporating faith, scripture, and prayer into your ceremony. I’m equally comfortable with a fully secular celebration that never mentions religion at all. Whatever reflects who you are as a couple — that’s what we do.
My background as a professional writer means I craft messages that actually land. Whether you hand me a list of talking points or give me full creative freedom, I’ll deliver something that moves people
Wedding Venues in Thousand Oaks — A City Built for Beautiful Weddings
Thousand Oaks has a venue for every couple, every style, and every budget. Here are some of my favorites after nearly three decades of officiating here.
Sherwood Country Club
I have a personal connection to Sherwood Country Club that goes back over 25 years. Through a fortunate connection, I had the extraordinary privilege of playing golf there with two of the most beloved Los Angeles Dodgers of all time — pitcher Orel Hershiser and outfielder Brett Butler. I remember standing on those immaculate fairways, bordered by some of the most stunning multi-million dollar homes I’d ever seen, thinking: this place is something else.
That feeling never goes away when I officiate there. The ceremony site looks directly out over the golf course and into the valley where those breathtaking homes are nestled. It is, without question, one of the most beautiful backdrops I’ve ever stood in front of. And cocktail hour at Sherwood? Guests are sipping drinks while taking in that same view — nobody wants to leave.
One of my favorite details at Sherwood is the groomsmen’s pre-ceremony room. It’s this massive boardroom — long polished wooden table, enormous leather chairs — the kind of room where you feel like you should be signing a peace treaty. The groom and his guys love it. It sets a tone of importance and celebration before the ceremony even begins.
Sherwood Country Club is a first-class, deeply private wedding venue. If you want an experience that feels truly elevated, this is it.
Los Robles Golf Course
Los Robles Golf Course offers one of the most intimate ceremony settings in Thousand Oaks. What I love most about this venue is a detail that sounds simple but makes an enormous difference on wedding day: the bridal suite is literally steps from the ceremony site. The bride can walk out the door and she’s already walking down the aisle. No long hallways, no stressful procession through a crowded venue — just a seamless, elegant entrance. Couples who’ve been there know exactly what I mean.
Palm Garden Hotel
Sitting right in the heart of Thousand Oaks, the Palm Garden Hotel is a boutique-style venue that’s ideal for weddings of around 100 guests or fewer. What I love about this spot is how self-contained it is — guest rooms, bridal suites, and the ceremony site are all steps apart. The bridal party can get ready on-site and walk straight into the ceremony. For couples who want an intimate, beautifully managed wedding without the sprawl of a large venue, Palm Garden is a wonderful choice.
Conejo Community Park — Thousand Oaks’ Best Kept Secret
If you’re looking for a free, intimate, and genuinely beautiful place to get married, let me tell you about one of my favorite hidden gems in all of Thousand Oaks: Conejo Community Park.
Tucked into a quiet neighborhood in the heart of the city, this little park is everything Thousand Oaks is named for — massive oak trees, a charming bridge, and a creek running right through the middle of it. It’s peaceful, it’s gorgeous, and it costs nothing.
I’ve performed ceremonies at Conejo Community Park on a warm summer evening, on a crisp fall afternoon — and yes, even on Christmas morning. I’ve done vow renewals there. I’ve done elopements there. If you’re planning a wedding with fewer than 10 guests, or you simply want to elope in a beautiful natural setting without spending a fortune on a venue, this is the place. Not many people know about it. Now you do.

Your Personalized Wedding Minister in Thousand Oaks, CA
Finding the right officiant is one of the most important decisions you’ll make for your wedding. I don’t take that lightly. Every couple I work with gets my full attention — from our first phone call to the moment I pronounce you married.
I spend about an hour in a personal interview with every couple before I write a single word of your ceremony. I want to know how you met, what makes your partner laugh, what your families mean to you, and what you want the people in those seats to walk away feeling. That’s the foundation of everything I write.
Beyond officiating, I’m deeply connected throughout the Southern California wedding community. I’m happy to point you toward photographers, coordinators, florists, and other vendors I trust. Check out my wedding packages to find the right fit for your day.

“My husband and I very easily decided to select Dean Merrill as our officiant after our first call with him inquiring about his services. We decided to proceed with his Personal package which led to a detailed and fun phone meeting with the three of us as he got to know us and to prepare for the ceremony. The day of our wedding Dean found is way to each of us prior to the ceremony to introduce himself in person and check in to see how we were doing before our big moment. Dean gladly joined my very close family and friends and I in a prayer to help guide us through the big day. During the ceremony Dean was calm and confident and very warm as he spoke about my husband and I. The ceremony was nothing but perfect. He did an amazing job sharing our stories and our love for each other to our friends and family. It has been two weeks since we were married and we still are receiving comments about how amazing and touching the ceremony was. I wish I could give him 100 stars if it were possible!”

I offer license processing in both my simple and personal wedding packages. All you have to do is apply and bring your license to the ceremony, where I’ll handle all of the necessary signatures. Do You Officiate Small Weddings?
I have tackled weddings of every imaginable size and given my all to each of them. I’m ready to design the ceremony that fits your needs, no matter how many people will be in attendance.
Can My Children Join in the Ceremony
Of course! I’ll gladly incorporate your immediate (or extended) family into the ceremony. The bottom line is that I want to do whatever will make you and your loved ones feel special on the big day, making it truly unforgettable for everyone in attendance.
