29 Years Serving Awesome Couples in Ventura, CA!
Wedding Officiant & Minister in Ventura, CA
“As a wedding officiant Ventura couples have trusted for 29 years, this city holds a very special place in my heart — it’s where I got married 32 years ago. From the beachfront elegance of the Crowne Plaza Ventura Beach to the breathtaking hilltop views at Serra Cross Park, from the charm of the Ventura Pier to the coastal beauty of the Pierpont Inn — I’ve had the privilege of officiating incredible ceremonies here for nearly three decades. My background in motivational speaking, ministry, and professional writing means every ceremony I write is completely unique to you. I’m the preferred officiant for Bella Vita Events, Southern California’s #1 rated wedding coordinator. Call or text me at (805) 300-4955 — I’d love to be part of your Ventura wedding.”
As a trusted wedding officiant Ventura couples rely on, I have a personal connection to this city that runs deeper than most people know. The Crowne Plaza Ventura Beach is where I stood 32 years ago and said my own vows. So when I walk into that venue to officiate a wedding, I know exactly what the couple standing in front of me is feeling — because I felt it too.
What I bring to every ceremony is something most officiants simply don’t offer. My background as a motivational speaker, minister, and professional writer means I don’t show up with a template. I sit with every couple for about an hour, ask questions, listen to your story, and then write a ceremony from scratch that is completely and uniquely yours.
If you’re looking for a wedding officiant Ventura has to offer, I’d love to connect. Call or text me at (805) 300-4955
The Benefits of Customized Ceremonies
Here’s what 29 years has taught me: couples don’t want generic. They want their wedding to feel like them. When you choose me as your officiant, I spend real time getting to know you — your personalities, your story, your humor, your values. Then I write every single word of your ceremony from scratch.
I’ve officiated intimate beach elopements with 5 guests and elegant ballroom affairs with 300. The size doesn’t matter. What matters is that every person in those seats feels something. That’s my job and I take it seriously. It’s what sets me apart as the wedding officiant Ventura couples recommend most.
Officiating Religious and Secular Weddings
I’m an ordained minister, so I’m completely comfortable incorporating faith, scripture, and prayer into your ceremony. I’m equally comfortable with a fully secular celebration that never mentions religion at all. Whatever reflects who you are as a couple — that’s exactly what we do.
My background as a professional writer means I craft messages that actually land. Whether you hand me a list of talking points or give me full creative freedom, I’ll deliver something that moves people.
5 Reasons to Get Married in Ventura, CA
I’ve been officiating weddings in Ventura for 29 years. Here’s what I tell every couple who asks me why Ventura:
1. You’re Right on the Pacific Ocean
Ventura sits directly on the Southern California coast with some of the most accessible and beautiful beachfront in the entire region. Whether you want your toes in the sand at Pierpont Beach, a ceremony under the iconic Ventura Pier, or an oceanfront celebration at the Crowne Plaza — the Pacific Ocean is your backdrop. There is nothing quite like it.
2. Serra Cross Park — The Most Beautiful Free Wedding Spot in the World
I don’t use that phrase lightly. Serra Cross sits high atop the hills of Ventura with a 180-degree unobstructed view of the Pacific Ocean as far as the eye can see. It is absolutely breathtaking. For couples wanting to elope or have a small intimate wedding, it costs nothing. You simply show up, find your spot, and get married with one of the most stunning views on earth as your backdrop. For larger weddings a permit is required, but the vast majority of ceremonies I’ve done there have been couples who wanted something free, beautiful, and unforgettable. You simply cannot beat free for that view.
Serra Cross also carries a story of remarkable resilience. During the devastating Thomas Fire that tore through Ventura County, the flames burned right through the small park surrounding the cross. The cross itself caught fire — but it did not break. It stood tall with charred remains, a powerful symbol of perseverance for a community that needed it desperately. Many families who lost everything in those fires looked up at that cross still standing and found the strength to rebuild. I think about that every time I officiate there.
3. The Ventura Pier
The Ventura Pier is one of my favorite spots for small weddings and elopements. I’ve performed dozens of ceremonies there over the years — couples who simply wanted a beach wedding in California without the fuss of a venue. The columns underneath the pier are genuinely beautiful for wedding photography. Photographers love it. The light, the structure, the ocean backdrop — it’s a stunning and completely unique setting that you won’t find anywhere else.
4. A Perfect Year-Round Climate
Ventura enjoys one of the most consistently temperate climates in all of Southern California. Ocean breezes keep summer temperatures comfortable and winters mild. I’ve officiated weddings here in every month of the year without a single weather issue. Whatever time of year you’re planning — Ventura delivers.
5. Easy Access and a Genuine Community Feel
Ventura sits just an hour north of Los Angeles and a short drive south of Santa Barbara — making it one of the most accessible wedding destinations in the region for guests coming from anywhere. And despite its popularity, it has a genuine small-city charm that larger destinations simply can’t match. Downtown Ventura’s restaurants, shops, and breweries give your wedding weekend real character and flavor.
Wedding Venues in Ventura, CA
Crowne Plaza Ventura Beach
The Crowne Plaza Ventura Beach is where I got married 32 years ago — so this venue will always hold a very special place in my heart. It sits right on the beach near the Ventura Pier with unobstructed ocean views from nearly every angle.
What most people don’t know about the Crowne Plaza is what’s on the very top floor. There’s a dining room up there unlike anything else in the world — the tables actually rotate 360 degrees once every hour, giving every guest a complete view of both the mountains and the ocean. And here’s the best part: guests never even realize they’re moving. It is one of the coolest dining experiences I’ve ever had and it makes the Crowne Plaza a truly one-of-a-kind venue for a wedding celebration.
Serra Cross Park
High above the city of Ventura, Serra Cross Park is what I call the most beautiful free wedding spot in the world. The views are simply indescribable — 180 degrees of Pacific Ocean stretching as far as you can see. I’ve officiated dozens of ceremonies here for couples who wanted something breathtaking without the price tag of a traditional venue. It’s popular with locals and tourists alike, and on a clear day the Channel Islands are visible on the horizon. If you want a ceremony site that will leave your guests speechless, Serra Cross is it.
The Ventura Pier
For couples dreaming of a true California beach wedding, the Ventura Pier is one of the most charming and accessible locations in the county. I’ve performed many ceremonies here — most of them intimate elopements for couples who wanted to exchange vows with the ocean as their witness. The columns underneath the pier create a naturally beautiful frame for wedding photography that photographers absolutely love. Whether you stand on the beach, in front of the plaza, or underneath the pier itself — every angle is stunning.
The Pierpont Inn
The Pierpont Inn is a classic Ventura beachfront property with a warmth and character that larger hotel venues simply can’t replicate. I’ve officiated there and what strikes me every time is the unobstructed ocean view. No matter where you stand on the property, the Pacific is right there. It’s an intimate, beautifully managed venue that feels genuinely special from the moment you arrive.
Ventura is where I said my own vows 32 years ago. It will always be one of my favorite cities to officiate in. If you’re planning a ceremony here reach out now — Serra Cross and the Ventura Pier book up quickly in the spring and fall.

“My husband and I very easily decided to select Dean Merrill as our officiant after our first call with him inquiring about his services. We decided to proceed with his Personal package which led to a detailed and fun phone meeting with the three of us as he got to know us and to prepare for the ceremony. The day of our wedding Dean found is way to each of us prior to the ceremony to introduce himself in person and check in to see how we were doing before our big moment. Dean gladly joined my very close family and friends and I in a prayer to help guide us through the big day. During the ceremony Dean was calm and confident and very warm as he spoke about my husband and I. The ceremony was nothing but perfect. He did an amazing job sharing our stories and our love for each other to our friends and family. It has been two weeks since we were married and we still are receiving comments about how amazing and touching the ceremony was. I wish I could give him 100 stars if it were possible!”
